EASTON, Maine — On Friday, Dec. 16 the Easton Bears girls and boys basketball teams triumphed over Van Buren. The girls defeated the Crusaders 43-18, while the Easton boys were victorious 49-25.
In the girls game, Van Buren had a hard time making it past the Bears’ defense. Easton pulled ahead early in the first quarter and maintained its dominance throughout the game.
Bear Amelia Bate was the leading scorer in 3-point shots and overall points with 19 points on the night. Bate also was a star player on defense putting the pressure on Van Buren with her fellow teammates. Madison Seely wasn’t far behind with 12 points as she led the charge down the court on some plays.
Van Buren had a thinner point spread with its lead scorer Mallory Beaulieu at seven points and the only Crusader to net a 3-point shot during the Class D game. The final quarter in the girls basketball game had Van Buren stuck at zero points scored, while Easton saw gains of eight points on its runaway win.
In the boys contest, Easton exploded out onto the court netting 13 points from the duo of Evan Carver laying up 17 points and Owen Sweeney at 13 points. Van Buren had a tough time keeping up at seven points at the end of the first quarter.
Bear Carver also netted the most 3-pointers, most of which happened in the first quarter with a final 3-point shot drilled during the third quarter for Easton.
The Easton girls stand at 1-2 for the season, while the Easton boys are off to a strong start with an undefeated beginning of 2-0.
