Elks plan lodge foul shooting event Dec. 31

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Presque Isle Elks Lodge 1954 will host its annual free throw competition for youth on Saturday, Dec. 31 at the Presque Isle Middle School gymnasium. 

Registration for the Elks Hoop Shoot begins at 8:30 a.m. and the competition gets under way at 9 a.m. Family members and friends are welcome to attend.

Schools and recreation departments from the communities of Ashland, Caribou, Easton, Mapleton, Mars Hill, Presque Isle, Washburn and Woodland held preliminary contests over the past several weeks, with winners awarded trophies and the opportunity to advance to the lodge competition. 

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest open to boys and girls ages 8-13. Contestants are assigned an age group based on the age he or she will be on April 1, 2023.  Age groups are 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 and there are separate divisions for boys and girls.

The program is free to all contestants and provides and opportunity to compete, connect and succeed through hard work and healthy competition. 

Winners at the lodge event move on to the Northern Maine districts, which will be held in Bangor Jan. 15. 2023. State, New England and national contests follow for those who advance.
