115 Years Ago – Feb. 6, 1908

Returned from trip– Howard Fox returned Monday from a trip to New York, Buffalo, Montreal and other cities, having made the trip in the company of his brother.

Returned to Houlton — T. L. Fox returned to Houlton Saturday after remaining in charge of the Fox Clothing Company’s stores in Presque Isle and Caribou during the absence of the resident manager, Howard Fox.

100 Years Ago – Feb. 8, 1923

Returned from business trip — Judge John B. Roberts has returned from a business trip to Virginia. He reports the climate there, while not real wintery like Aroostook, as being cold and raw.

Valentines party helps school — The pupils of the Don School are to give a Valentine party at the home of Henry Armstrong on Friday evening. Precedes are to be used to pay for the gramophone recently purchased for the school. The teacher, Miss Staples of Fort Fairfield, is in charge of the affair.

75 Years Ago – Feb. 5, 1948

New manager for Creamery — John O. Rogers announced this week that he has obtained the services of Harrison Bragden, of Farmington as manager of the Katahdin Creamery of which he is part owner. Bragdon has been with H. P. Hood for the past 11 years and has worked in Farmington, Auburn and Belfast. He has a wife and two children, and plans to move his family to Caribou as soon as he can obtain suitable quarters for them. Rogers stated that Millard Harrison, who has been acting manager for the past few months, will remain with the company in the capacity of plant foreman.

Students learn meat cutting for school lunch programs — ‘Meat me at six,’ said the tall good-looking brunette to her friend as she whacked off a two pound steak. It was not a meat market, but the group being instructed in the cutting of meat at the home economics class at the high school. Not a part of the home economics department, the class numbers about 48 girls from that department and about the same number of boys, mostly from the agricultural department. The instructor, Reinhold Anderson, has been a meat cutter for a number of years and is now janitor at the high school. He has volunteered his knowledge of meat to help the group learn the proper uses of the various meat cuts. After the meat is cut and the class has learned the various cuts, they wrap it up and put it in a deep freeze unit for future use – in the cafeteria for school lunches.

25 Years Ago – Feb. 11, 1998

Rotary donation — The Caribou Snowmobile Club received a $2,130 donation from the Caribou Rotary Club for their participation in the annual Rotary Snowmobile draw. Dave Wilcox presented the check to Kendall Sutherland of the Caribou Snowmobile Club. The donation will be used for trail maintenance.

Chamber honors business, citizen – Katherine Anderson of Professional Home Nursing accepted the Business of the Year Award at the Caribou Chamber of Commerce’s Annual Recognition Dinner held Saturday night. Anderson started Professional Home Nursing three years ago with Darlene Foster.
