WASHBURN, Maine — Fire crews fought a structure fire Monday morning in Washburn.
The blaze broke out around 9 a.m. at a single-family, two-story home at 21 Porter St., owned by Mark and Melissa Hartin.
When firefighters arrived, black smoke and flames were shooting from the structure, according to Washburn Fire Chief Nate Allen.
No one was in the home at the time. Melissa Hartin was at work and her husband was dropping off the children at school, Allen said. No injuries were reported.
The Washburn Fire Department received mutual aid from the Presque Isle and Mapleton fire departments, Washburn police and utility crews.
The American Red Cross was on scene to assist the family, the fire chief said.
The home was deemed a total loss. The cause is yet to be determined and the Maine state fire marshal’s office is investigating.
