PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Aroostook Agency on Aging will exhibit the work of Presque Isle photographer Michael A. Gudreau in April as part of the Artists for Aging initiative. In addition to framed photographs, the artist will present several digital collections of his images as well as a display of film era cameras and accessories during an opening reception from 5-8 p.m. Friday, April 7.
Gudreau, is a lifelong Aroostook County resident, has been interested in photography since a young age. In his pre-teens, he was developing black and white film at the local college and photography, in all its forms, soon became a passion for him.
After high school, he was able to combine his abilities in graphic design and taking pictures when he started what would be a long career in publishing, including print jobs, newspapers and magazines. He especially enjoys working with new and very old pictures that no one has seen in a long time and sharing the back stories and lesser known facts about the subject matter.
Gudreau eventually started his own business, taking wedding photographs, portraits, and scenics, including landscapes and interesting landmarks or architecture.
“I love to be able to have the freedom to get something in my mind and go out and try to capture it,” he said, adding, “I call myself Dog Eye because, just like a dog laying on the kitchen floor who is always looking up at people, I see most things from a unique perspective.”
Michael and his wife Kelly, who reside on Echo Lake, have three adult children and five grandchildren.
The April 7 Artists for Aging event, held during Presque Isle’s First Friday Art Walk, is free and open to the public. Artists exhibiting works at the Agency on Aging agree to donate 20 percent of their sales to support its programs and services.
