ASHLAND, Maine — Ashland District School senior Benjamin Howes, of Ashland, was recently selected to receive the 2023 Principal’s Award, according to Principal Joel Hall. The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
“Ben has truly made his mark at Ashland District School in terms of his school service and scholarship. Ben is an outstanding academic student with high goals and expectations for himself,” Hall said. “Ben has always excelled while taking the most difficult classes ADS has to offer. Ben has participated in several other co-curricular clubs and athletics in order to stay a well-rounded student.”
Howes is a member of the National Honor Society. He has also participated on the varsity soccer and baseball teams throughout his high school career. Howeswas also named one of 2023 Ashland District School Scholar-Athletes. He has also participated in student governmental positions for the Class of 2023. Howes has participated in modern band and instrumental band.
He is the son of Laura and Bernard Howes Jr. of Ashland. Howes is planning on attending the University of Maine and majoring in business administration.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association that represents Maine’s school administrators.
