50 Years Ago — April 12, 1973
Surprise retirement party — Mr. and Mrs. Guy Duperry were feted at a surprise retirement gathering last Saturday, March 31, 1973, after 37 years as owner of a prominent business.
Their grocery store, combined with the Keegan Post Office until a year ago, on Main Street, was the “stop” for so many former area residents who would drop in to say hello to a former friend or acquaintance. It could almost be considered a local landmark.
25 Years Ago — April 15, 1998
Historical book — Author Frank Sleeper was in Madawaska recently to sign copies of his new book “Images of America: The Upper St. John Valley,” a pictorial history of the region. Assisting Sleeper in the compilation of photos were members of several St. John Valley historical societies, including the Madawaska Historical Society.

Madore house gone; park upgrade progresses — The home next to the Four Corners Park in downtown Madawaska was demolished on April 3, 2013, as part of an upgrade to the park. Joe LaChance, founder of the park, and the members of the Four Corners Park Association purchased the property, formerly owned by Sheriff Jim Madore, in late 2012 to create additional parking, and to build a garage for storage.
