VAN BUREN, Maine — A community member’s report of a man with a Connecticut license plate she perceived to be behaving erratically led to an arrest for drug trafficking.

A female caller reported a man pacing in the parking lot of the Van Buren Public Library at around 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said. The caller expressed concern that the man appeared to be under the influence of something, and school was about to begin in the area.

Maine State Police Troopers Andrew Levesque and Ted Martin detained the man, whom they identified as 46-year-old Agustin Rosa of Meriden, Connecticut. Border Patrol agents and Aroostook Sheriff’s deputies assisted.

Police searched Rosa and in his pocket discovered two vials filled with a white substance they believed to be fentanyl. They searched Rosa’s vehicle and found drug paraphernalia, tin foil, a cutting agent, scales and small plastic baggies, police said.

Police charged Rosa with aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs, a class A felony. He was transported to the Aroostook County Jail.
