DANFORTH, Maine — After a three-year absence, the East Grand Adventure Race will return on Saturday, May 13.
The race is a great spectator event as well, with the best viewing is at the Crooked Brook flowage launch in Danforth 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This is the bike-to-paddle transition location and a great place to view multiple challenges such as the mud pit crawl, log rolling and scaling wall.
The race is a 20-mile compass run, mountain bike, climbing wall and paddle (canoe or kayak). Extra challenges may include the climbing wall, tough mudder crawl and log rolling.
There are nine divisions: high school boys, girls and mixed; adult men, women and mixed; junior/senior; family; and open. The open division can include a relay team, solo or teams of any size — in short, anything that doesn’t fit into the other divisions can compete in the open division.
The family division leaves out the biking leg which is great for families with younger kids or those who do not bike.
The cost is $20 per person. Families with more than two participating only cost $5 after the first two. Pre-registration is required.
Check-in will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at East Grand High.
Prizes will include $1,500 in student awards. First place is a Jetboil Flash Stoves. Second and third places will earn $75 & $50 gift certificates to Ski Rack Sports of Bangor. All racers’ names will be entered into a drawing for a chance at a new Old Town Discovery 15-foot, 8- inch canoe.

The 34-mile Baskahegan Stream Canoe Race is a separate race that will run in conjunction with the adventure race as a paddle-only option.
