The Aroostook Hospice Foundation, owner of the Aroostook House of Comfort in Presque Isle, recently celebrated its fifth anniversary.
The Aroostook Hospice Foundation was established in 2009. After years of fundraising campaigns, grant writing and the efforts of many community members and volunteers, the Aroostook House of Comfort opened its doors in 2018.
Since that time the facility has served more than 600 patients, along with supporting their families and caregiver teams from across the state.
Staff, volunteers and board members gathered at the facility to recognize what has been accomplished along with their vision for the future. It is through ongoing fundraising efforts such as the annual Golf Classic and Walk for Hospice, along with grant funding and private donations, that the Aroostook House of Comfort can continue to serve this community for many years to come, officials said.
As the Aroostook Hospice Foundation is a nonprofit organization and does not bill for services, donations are vital for operational and facility costs, Charity Care funding, and mortgage management.
Charity Care funding is available to patients and families who are underinsured, uninsured or without other financial means.
The Aroostook House of Comfort is a six-bed, inpatient hospice facility working in partnership with Northern Light Home Care and Hospice, a Medicare-certified hospice agency. Its mission is to provide quality end-of-life care regardless of one’s ability to pay.
