All life is sacred

To the editor:

I plead with the representatives of the citizens of Maine to vote against LD 1619, which would legalize abortion up to birth. It is barbaric to politicize the killing of infants as though it were legalizing a “health” procedure. It is more akin to the sacrificing of living babies in ancient times in order to please “the gods.”

All life is sacred, and it is particularly distressing to think of full-term babies, capable of living outside of the womb, being routinely killed for convenience up until birth. Passing a bill to legalize aborting full-term babies does nothing to curb irresponsible sex; abortion does, however, often leave mothers (and fathers) with emotional challenges and often despair, not to mention the suffering babies endure when violently murdered.

Full-term babies are people with all the rights of all other citizens. How unconstitutional and unfair that one child should be favored over another in the matter of life and death from the womb.

In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you,” which tells us that every baby is made in God’s image and has a soul. May we have reverence and respect for life that God has so miraculously created.

I beg our politicians to spend energy and money on ways to support and care for unwanted babies rather than sweeping irresponsibility under the rug and destroying the evidence and inconvenience when it involves a living baby.

Thank you to Maine legislators who fight hard for life.
