PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, will host a Flag Day ceremony at the Elks Lodge, located at 508 Main Street in Presque Isle, on Wednesday, June 14 at 5 p.m. Elks Exalted Ruler Melanie Fassold said, “Elks’ lodges throughout the nation are urged to host an Elks Flag Day Ceremony open to the public.
The ceremony at the Presque Isle Lodge will feature pageantry, patriotic music, a presentation by the Loring Job Corps color guard of various flags of historical significance in the evolution of the flag of our nation, as well as relevant remarks by Gregory LaFrancois, CEO of A.R. Gould Hospital and a retired colonel.”
Flag Day has been recognized in the halls of Elks Lodges in this nation for over 100 years. Flag Day commemorates the adoption of a national flag for the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress. Flag Day was first celebrated by the Elks Lodges of Texas and was known as Texas Flag Day.
Flag Day is celebrated on June 14, which is the birth date of the United States Army. The Continental Army of the United States was adopted by resolution of the Second Continental Congress on June 14, 1777.
At the conclusion of the Flag Day ceremony, a light meal will be provided free of charge to all those in attendance.
