Mapleton was hopping last evening with the Mapleton Daze Kick-Off event, which was an open house at the Mapleton Fire Department with a hot dog roast.
Wednesday
Tonight Dialed Action Sports will host a professional BMX & MTB Bike Show for the whole family at 6:30 p.m. at the Mapleton Elementary School playground.
Food vendors will be available before and during the stunt show. Bring your chairs.
This is a free event, however the Mapleton Daze Committee will be having a free raffle for kids under 12 for two BMX bikes. Kids will need to stop at the Mapleton Daze table to get tickets (one ticket per child).
If it should rain, the show will be moved to Thursday.
Thursday
Baptist Park will host an open house at the campground at 60 Park Road. A free supper will start at 5:30 p.m. Then based on the weather, activities will be available following supper including zip line, disc golf, mountain bike on the park’s wooded trails, mini golf, playground, frog pond, gaga pit, yard games, kick ball, a bonfire and the indoor pool.
Use of the pool requires parental supervision for anyone under 18 years of age and younger must be accompanied by their parent/guardian.
The annual bingo games and cribbage tournament start at 6 p.m. at Mapleton Elementary School.
Mapleton Daze Bingo night tomorrow night, starting at 6 p.m., is another large crowd pleaser. This year the Bingo and Cribbage Game Night will be held at the Mapleton Elementary School. There is no charge to play Bingo, where the players have lots of fun winning the many donated prizes.

Bingo is free of charge and there are many donated prizes. The location of the bingo games will be the school’s cafeteria. Attendees should enter at the cafeteria entrance.
Cribbage will be held in the Resource Center (outside the cafeteria). There will be a $5 entry charge. The winner will receive $200, while second and third place will receive $100 and $50, respectively.
Homemade french fries, hot dogs, and grilled cheese sandwiches will be available to p urchase.
Please bring a canned food item to support the Community Cupboard.
Friday
Starting at 4 p.m. the Mapleton Lions Club will serve barbecue chicken dinners at the school parking lot. The cost is $15 and includes a chicken breast, cole slaw, potato salad, roll and a beverage.
The most popular event of Mapleton Daze, the Mapleton Lions Chicken BBQ, will be Friday evening, June 23 and starting at 4:30 p.m. This year the Mapleton Lions Club will cook and serve their BBQ chicken dinners in the parking lot at the Mapleton Elementary School. Five hundred dinners will be prepared, so everyone is encouraged to come out and enjoy the food and music at the school.

The Mapleton Baptist Church will be sponsoring and holding a cornhole tournament at 6 p.m. at Mapleton Elementary School. Participants 13 and older may register. Prizes will be $50 first place, $30 second place, and $10 third place. Registration starts at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will be limited to the first 20 people registering.
The band County Folk will entertain at 6 p.m. Bring chairs. In case of rain the event will be held inside the school.
Starting at dusk (approximately 9 p.m.) there will be fireworks.
Saturday
Breakfast on Haystack Mountain starts at 7 a.m. Participants will be guided to the top of the mountain for breakfast. Come and enjoy breakfast with a view. All ages are welcome to attend and this event is free.
Free breakfast sandwiches with drinks will be provided from 7:30 to 10 a.m. next to the post office by the area churches. The churches will collect non-perishable food items for the Mapleton/Castle Hill/Chapman food pantry.
By 9:30 a.m. all entries for the Mapleton Daze Cooking Contest must be in. This is a new event. Aroostook cooks/bakers are encouraged to show off their best recipes in this contest. Contestants should drop entries off at Taste of Home Restaurant on Main Street.
Categories are: Best Potato Dish/Recipe, Best Sweet/Dessert and Best Maple Dish/Recipe. The public will sample and vote. First-place winners in each category will receive a ribbon and $50.
The Haystack Historical Society opens at 10 a.m. for homemade pie and ice cream at the museum. This is a fundraiser. Family quilts are hanging in the museum.

Also at 10 a.m., the children’s bike entries will lead the Mapleton Daze parade down Main Street starting from the Dudley Road. There will be awards for the Best Non-Profit, Best Business, Best Antique Car, Best Tractor, Best Queen Float, and Best Overall Entry. Activities start at the Mapleton Elementary School at 11 a.m., including food vendors, face painting, bouncy houses, demonstrations (blacksmithing, Pinewood Derby Racing Club and rope tying), games, a petting zoo, horse rides and a bike raffle. There will be monster truck rides and autobots (transformers) at the school. The giant haystack with hidden prizes will be at the school for children of all ages.
The Mapleton Daze Annual Car Show is from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Mapleton Baptist Church parking lot. Prizes and trophies will be awarded. Owners may drive their cars/trucks in the parade. For information, message Foster, Mapleton Daze or Brandon at North Lighting Concepts.
Star City Syndicate will perform at 6 p.m. Bring chairs. Food vendors will be on hand.
Sunday
Starting at 10 a.m. the Mapleton ATV Club will host a family fun ATV ride. Riders will meet at the Mapleton Gazebo on Main Street and ride trails around Chapman, Mapleton and surrounding areas. Lunch will be provided.
