PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook Agency on Aging will exhibit paintings by Washburn artist Lavina  Corey in July as part of the Artists for Aging initiative. The artist will present a collection of her works during an opening reception from 4:30-7 p.m. on Friday, July 14.

Corey started pursuing her interest in art around 1977 through the Adult Education program at  Washburn District High School. She also took art lessons from Marvin Jacobs of Belfast when he had his studio in Caribou. Corey has also studied and painted along with other local artists including the late Gloria Wilcox and Rose Doughman.

A lifetime resident of Washburn, Corey will also exhibit later this summer during her community’s annual August Festival Craft Show in the town park, where she is a perennial favorite.

The July 14 Artists for Aging event is free and open to the public. Artists exhibiting works at the Agency on Aging agree to donate 20 percent of their sales to support its programs and services.
