No matter what we believe, can we agree?

To the editor:

A good friend of mine from out of state visited me a couple of days ago after some 25 years of “no see.” The two of us, being of the same age (80), talked about life, the old days, politics, religion and — naturally — women.

We agreed on the subjects of life, old days, most politics, some religion and totally about women. Politics: the man loves Trump. I like DeSantis and also Kennedy. Life and the old days, what can I say?  It matters not what we think about them, it is what it is.

Religion?  We aren’t quite sure how that finished up.  Protestants obviously were the folks who “protested” something.  I thought it was the Council Of Trent, but my friend said it started in Germany with local support for Martin Luther.  Ole Martin had some kind of a problem with the pope or something.

I don’t wish to insult Protestants, Catholics, Lutherans, Muslims or anybody else out there, but I just want to ask: lovers of God, of every faith, can we agree somehow to cease killing babies?

The direction with which we approach our Creator is unimportant. What is crucial, however, is our commitment to the preservation of the newborn, gifted to all of us from our Creator.

Side with me on this and I will do what I can to re-institute bingo in the parish hall.
