To the editor:
It has been my experience that people tend to be very generous and giving when they make out their wills or when they make donations to various causes they hold dear. It is unfortunate, however, that some recipients of such donations are already so engorged with money that they couldn’t spend their way out of their endowments if they tried.
Many colleges and universities are like this because so many feel they should leave large amounts to their alma maters, especially if a building is named for them or other consideration.
Presque Isle’s Central Aroostook Humane Society is in dire need of funds to build a new state-of-the-art facility that will meet all the needs and several of the desires of its precious wards. Now it’s no secret that many of us have pets that we love and will do just bout anything we can for. Some would say we even spoil them and treat them like our children. I kn ow I do and am not ashamed to admit it.
These animals that we’ve taken in are the lucky ones, and we are so blessed to have them in our lives. But what about those who are waiting for their loving forever homes? If we can, shouldn’t we do everything we can to make sure their shelter stay has every comfort we can afford?
As a cat lover and owner, I would love to see a large room full of cat condos where cats can lounge and play where potential adopters can interact with them. I know dog lovers would appreciate the same. That’s just one idea that can be incorporated in a new shelter.
So I would like to encourage my fellow animal lovers to be free with their donations to Presque Isle’s new shelter and to make sure a hefty monetary gift is included in their wills to this well-deserving organization, which takes care of our four-footed friends until they find their permanent loving homes.
