PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – The County Federal Credit Union is pleased to announce they have committed to donating $50,000 to BigRock’s Capital Improvement Campaign.

The largest ski area in Northern Maine, BigRock serves Aroostook County and all five of The County’s northern branch communities. BigRock provides entertainment for Mainers regardless of where they live, from kids and families learning to ski to fall foliage rides and ski meets. BigRock currently has 27 trails, two chair lifts, two surface lifts, and a tubing hill. Their Capital Improvement Campaign will secure the future of BigRock as a premier family skiing destination for generations to come.

“We are excited for the opportunity to contribute to such an important project for the mountain,” said Ryan Ellsworth, president & CEO. “BigRock’s continued improvements and viability helps all of the area businesses and communities prosper and The County Federal Credit Union is committed to the success of the areas that we serve.”

BigRock’s Capital Improvement Project will replace the 50-plus-year-old chairlift to the top and quadruple snowmaking capacity. The new lift will be a 4-person chairlift that will double skier capacity and reduce ride times. In addition, the snowmaking upgrades will allow the mountain to open weeks earlier, with better snow and an expanded season. BigRock has an average of 600 season pass holders and 20,000 unique skier visits. With these upgrades, BigRock will be more attractive to skiers and snowboarders from across the state and New Brunswick and will have a spill-over effect on businesses.

“The BigRock board is pleased to accept The County Federal Credit Union’s donation and appreciates their commitment to building stronger and healthier communities,” said Mike Chasse, who serves on BigRock’s board of directors. “By investing in BigRock, we are building on the outdoor recreation asset that makes living in Northern Maine so special. We look forward to the project breaking ground in spring 2024 and what that will mean for the improved skiing and snowboarding experience.”

The County Federal Credit Union serves Aroostook, Penobscot, and Piscataquis counties with branches in Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield, Mars Hill, Houlton, Howland, Old Town, and Bangor.
