A reading from the Declaration of Independence was done at The James School at around noon that is hosted by The James School Corp, which is a group of residents led by a board of directors. Michael Gudreau is president of the board and Galen Weibley is the vice president.

This year’s reading of the Declaration of Independence was done by Larry Harrison, U.S. Air Force veteran and Boy Scout Master of Washburn Troop 177, to a small gathering inside The James School at 125 Niles Road in Presque Isle.

Before the reading, a flag-raising ceremony was held in front of The James School with Weibley reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

The James School was built in 1917 and was in service until 1948.
