MADAWASKA, Maine — Members of Le Club Francais heard about other local efforts to promote and preserve the French language in the Valley. On June 20, Le Club Français held its social meeting at Tang’s Restaurant in Madawaska, prior to their summer hiatus.
The group of more than 40 members welcomed the Rev. Alex of the Christian Life Center in Frenchville as he spoke of the work the CLC is doing in reintroducing the French language to mostly home-schooled children, who attend Mass and bible study at the Center. The Rev. Alex had convinced Barbara Roy of Madawaska to help him learn some French. However, what started as a one-on-one session between the Rev. Alex and Roy, has evolved into a class of 15 area youths learning along with the priest.
Le Club Français donated a check of $2000 to support the Christian Life Center’s efforts to promote and preserve our French language. The club will also donate learning aids for the CLC.
