LIMESTONE, Maine — Loring Enrollment Services Manager Roger Felix was recently presented with the Boy Scouts of America Good Scout Award for the year.
The Good Scout Award is given by the scouting community to honor a community member who has demonstrated the qualities associated with making those around them in their communities better. Felix was selected as he truly exceeds all aspects of engagement and betterment of his community. Since his retirement from the Army Felix has been a driving force in multiple veteran organizations and has been recognized at all levels for his many years of service to the veteran communities and his drive to ensure that all veterans are cared for and receive the recognition they deserve.
The Good Scout Award is presented annually to a deserving individual by the Boy Scouts of America. The recognition is presented to those who exemplify in their daily life the ideals of the Boy Scouts of America as expressed in the Scout Oath and Law. Recipients are chosen for their outstanding community service, as evidenced by their leadership to many worthwhile organizations, as well as the respect and esteem in which they are held by their colleagues.
The North Star District of the Katahdin Area Council Boy Scouts of America, which comprises Scouts from across Aroostook County, recently presented Felix this year’s award for his extraordinary leadership of citizens in all communities across Aroostook County as well as for his continuous message to youth that character counts. Felix sets daily examples that serve to inspire youth to lead, to accept responsibility, and to care about principles and causes beyond self-interest, Scout officials said.
Recipients need not have been scouts but must carry the “Spirit of Scouting.” They are individuals who have been unselfish in their service to others on an individual and community basis. They seek no return for their service, other than the satisfaction of aiding their fellow citizens, their community, and their nation.
In addition to his many years of service to his fellow veterans and the community Felix has dedicated and continues to train young adults to get involved and make a difference and through his leadership his Job Corps students over the years have completed thousands of hours of community service. Felix’s efforts in training youth and overcoming veterans issues have garnered state, regional and national attention not only for Loring Job Corps Center, but also for all of Job Corps and veterans everywhere.
He now joins the group of other prestigious past recipients who have also received this great honor. Past recipients of the North Star Good Scout Award include Bill Flagg of Cary Medical Center, Ray Gauvin, Shawn Cunningham of WAGM, Jon Prescott of Katahdin Trust, Carl Soderberg of Soderberg Construction, Sam Collins of S.W. Collins Co, Peter Sirois of Northern Maine Medical Center, Kris Doody of Cary, Jason Parent of Aroostook County Action Program and Norm Fornier, former Aroostook County commissioner.
