HOULTON, Maine — The Aroostook County grand jury handed up 47 indictments for July, including a Presque Isle man facing several counts of theft and criminal mischief.
District Attorney Todd Collins released the indictments on Aug. 10.
An indictment is not a finding of guilt, but an indication that there is enough evidence in a case to move forward with a trial.
Dylan Raymond, 18, formerly of Houlton, was indicted on six counts of criminal mischief and one of aggravated criminal mischief, along with burglary, refusing to submit to arrest and three counts of theft.
Houlton police arrested Raymond May 2 after a caller reported an alleged burglary at Cole’s Shoe Store. Officers allegedly saw him fleeing the scene. Police had received multiple vandalism and burglary calls that week, with residents reporting property damage and stolen items.
Raymond was charged with five felony counts of Class C motor vehicle burglary, five counts of Class E theft, 12 misdemeanor counts of Class D criminal mischief, one felony count of Class B burglary of a building and one felony count of Class C aggravated criminal mischief, according to police reports.
If he is convicted, Raymond could receive up to five years in jail and a $5,000 fine for each Class C count, and up to 10 years in jail and a $20,000 fine for the Class B charge.
The grand jury also indicted a Brunswick man who claimed to have explosives on his truck at the Houlton-Woodstock border crossing.
Tony Ray Holford, 42, was indicted for criminal threatening with a weapon, terrorizing with a weapon, terrorizing, passing a roadblock, failure to stop and operating without a license.
Holford was driving north on I-95 on May 29, according to police reports. A sign on his vehicle said he had explosives on board. A Maine State Police trooper tried to stop him, but Holford continued toward the border.
Holford stopped on the United States side, and troopers ordered him out of the vehicle. He resumed driving toward the Port of Entry, and a trooper shot at him but did not injure him, police said. Holford then surrendered.
He was charged with four felony counts related to an alleged bomb and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and two misdemeanor counts for eluding police.
Police found no explosives in the vehicle. Holford later admitted he never had a weapon.
His next hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Sept. 5 in Houlton.
