Springvale man allegedly assaults Houlton McDonald’s employees

HOULTON, Maine — A Springvale man, wearing a black mask and brandishing a large kitchen knife, allegedly assaulted two McDonald’s employees, threatening them with the knife on Saturday night in Houlton, according to the Houlton Police Department.

Kody R. Therrien, 19, was charged with robbery, two counts of assault, criminal threatening and resisting arrest, Houlton Police Chief Tim DeLuca said in a release on Monday afternoon.

Just before 7 p.m. Saturday, Houlton police responded to a call regarding a robbery taking place at McDonald’s at 110 North St. in Houlton.

By the time officers arrived, the man with the knife had already left the restaurant on foot. Police found Therrien in a wooded area next to Houlton Regional Hospital where he was arrested, police said.

According to witnesses and the store’s surveillance video, Therrien allegedly went behind the counter, assaulted the two employees and demanded money, police said.

Therrien became angry and began throwing objects throughout the store and at the employees, threatening them while grabbing the handle of the knife, according to DeLuca.

Therrien fled the store carrying the weapon in his hand and no money was taken, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Therrien was taken to Houlton Regional Hospital for an evaluation and later transported to Aroostook County Jail. Bail has been set at $10,000.00 cash, DeLuca said.
