3-Day Outlook: Wednesday, Aug. 30-Friday, Sept. 1

A cold front along with an associated upper-level trough and surface low pressure will cross the region today with  rain likely through the day. Rainfall amounts in the half to three-quarter inch range are anticipated as rich tropical moisture is drawn from the Atlantic over the northeast U.S. Locally heavy rain is expected today with the approaching cold front, and isolated flooding in urban areas and small streams is possible.

Rain will taper to showers this evening with decreasing cloudiness. Less than 1/10th inch of rainfall is possible this evening before precipitation winds down by midnight. A ridge of high pressure over the Great Lakes will begin to build in tonight with showers diminishing by midnight and partly cloudy skies developing overnight. Today’s high is expected in the mid to upper 60s with a low in the middle 40s tonight.

High pressure over the Great Lakes will build in Thursday with partly cloudy skies and breezy northwest winds gusting up to around 27 mph. Clear skies are expected Thursday night with light winds with some patchy fog possible. Daytime temperatures reach the middle 60s with an overnight low in the lower 40s.

Meteorological autumn (the period of September, October and November for record keeping) will begin Friday with sunny skies and mild conditions expected. Mostly clear skies will overspread the Valley Friday night into Saturday morning. Friday’s high will top out in the low 70s with an overnight low in the lower 50s.
