EASTON, Maine — The town of Easton will host the annual Field Days with multiple events for families, local residents and the surrounding communities.
It will be the third year since Easton moved Field Days from July to September. Most of the events are free. In the event of rain, activities will be moved into the Easton gym and cafeteria.
One change will be that there won’t be a parade for this year only because of the Maine State Firefighters Convention happening in Presque Isle from Sept. 8 to Sept. 10.
“Everybody puts a lot of work into [Easton Field Days]. It takes a lot of people and a lot of specialties,” said Hillary Hallett, Easton recreation director. “One of our biggest calling cards is we don’t want cost to be an inhibition to anybody.”
New events for this year will be a teddy bear picnic at 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at Easton Elementary School grounds, with lots of games and prizes from Neighborhood Books. A teddy parade will take place later in the day.
Earlier on Thursday, Sept. 7, the Easton Fire Department will host a spaghetti supper from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Elementary School Cafeteria that will cost $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. The proceeds help bring Christmas gifts to families in Easton.
Family Bingo Night will be held later in the evening on Thursday. There will be more than $2,000 in prizes from donations that include gift certificates and Easton Bear mascot attire as a couple examples.
On Friday, Sept. 8, All children events on Friday, Sept. 8, have been moved to the Junior High Soccer Field from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m., including bounce houses, obstacle course, tractor train rides, petting zoo and Fortnight nerf shooting as some of the events listed.
Food Venders will open at 4 p.m. on Friday at the Easton School grounds with Different Point of Brew, Hometown Proud BBQ and the Easton Project Graduation with their homemade french fries to name a few.
Friday night the varsity soccer game under the lights will be a match of Easton against Mars Hill with the girls varsity starting at 5 p.m. and the boys varsity scheduled at 7 p.m. At approximately 8:45 p.m., fireworks will be shot into the sky at the Easton School grounds.
On Saturday Sept. 9, a King Arthur’s cupcake baking contest will be held in the Elementary School Cafeteria between 3 and 4 p.m. with gift cards as one of the rewards. Easton High School junior Amelia Bate started the event a couple years ago. Bate is one of the youngest members of the Easton Field Days Committee.
Star City Syndicate will perform around 7 p.m. on Saturday near the varsity soccer field.
The Little School & Easton Historical Society will meet every day during Field Days from noon to 3 p.m. at 51 Station Road.
