PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Aroostook Agency of Aging will exhibit the work of Presque Isle painter Rick Kavanaugh in October as part of the Artists for Aging Initiative. His works will be featured during an opening reception from 4:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6 during Presque Isle’s monthly First Friday Art Walk.
Kavanaugh was born in Michigan, but has been a resident of Presque Isle for 26 years. In 1981 he married his wife Marcia, who is a native of Maine. They have two adult children and four grandchildren.
He has served at the Framework Church for 26 years; as the lead pastor from 1988 to 2008, and as the teaching pastor since 2019. In the interim 11 years, he and Marcia lived temporarily in North Carolina and Ohio.
Kavanaugh received a doctor of ministry from George Fox University in 2020. He has loved art most of his life, creating pieces in graphite and ink. But he only recently picked up painting in the spring of 2020 during the pandemic.
Kavanaugh’s preferred medium is acrylic. He paints landscapes, pet portraits and architectural subjects. His love for Maine and the outdoors inspires him to paint as often as he can. His artistic mission is to “celebrate the beauty of God’s creation one painting at a time.”
The Oct. 6 Artists for Aging event is free and open to the public. Artists like Kavanaugh who showcase creative works at the Agency on Aging agree to donate 20 percent of their sales to support its programs and services.
