FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine – A Fort Fairfield man was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
At approximately 10:40 a.m., Fort Fairfield Police Chief Matthew Cummings arrested 37-year-old David Brewer on West Limestone Road. Cummings had been helping Presque Isle officers search for Brewer after he allegedly fled the scene of an accident involving his 2012 Chevrolet pick-up truck and a UPS delivery truck.
Cummings stated in a press release that Brewer refused to stop his truck on Presque Isle Street in Fort Fairfield when Cummings first located him. Cummings then pursued Brewer until he pulled over on West Limestone Road. Brewer initially refused to exit the truck but was arrested after “a brief struggle” with Cummings, according to the chief.
Brewer is being charged with operating under the influence with priors, violating a conditional driver’s license, failing to stop for an officer, refusal to submit to arrest or detention, criminal mischief and failure to report a property damage accident. His blood alcohol concentration was four times higher than Maine’s legal limit of .8 percent, Cummings said.
Brewer was transported to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton. His bail has been set at $2,500.
