Shipmates Playhouse presents ‘Disney’s High School Musical’

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — Shipmates Playhouse proudly presents “Disney’s High School Musical” this weekend at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium.

The Shipmates Playhouse was started by Daniel Ladner, director, Glenna Smith, assistant director, and Richard Lord, set director, when the “senior play” “Oklahoma!” was such a success in 1970. According to long-time director Lander, it was so successful that they decided to establish a drama club. The name derived from the yearbook’s name SHIP (PIHS backwards) which has produced a musical every year thereafter, except 2020 when they held a small musical review in the spring of 2021 due to COVID.

This year’s show is “Disney’s High School Musical”, with Elaine Sipe, director, Meg Hegemann, assistant director, and Sawyer O’Donnell and Jamie Henderson (student), set directors. Set in a typical midwestern town, the play tells the story of young love, teenage angst, and the drama associated with breaking out of your comfort zone.  The production is filled with the positivity of friendship and being true to yourself, with lots of catchy songs directed by Sarah Diette and great dance scenes choreographed by Dani Haskell.

Our actors and set crew are (in alphabetical order) Emma Bard, Mia Brewer, Olivia Buster, Kim Caron, Johanna Cote, Ellie Crowe, Rylee Crowe, Jaeda Cyr, Julia Daggett, Jensen Doughty, Calie Ellis, Olivia Erickson, Abigail Hebert, Jamie Henderson, Matt Henderson, Madison Ireland, Maddison Jackson, Vincent Langworthy, Kayla Libby, Kacie Marston, Alexandra McPherson, Denver Miller, Camden O’Donnell, Evie O’Donnell, Demi Ortiz, Zavier Peng, JoLea Robinson, Shelby Robinson, Zoey Violet, Madelyn Waugh, and Carlee Wood.
