Elks League Bowling Leaders in Tight Race – Only a fraction of a point in percentage separated the top bowlers in the Elks Bowling League tournament at the end of eight weeks of the match, as of Dec. 10. The 10 top bowlers are: Reid, 107.6; Myshrall, 107.4; T. McIntyre, 105.3; Pelkey, 105.1; Getchell, 104.2; Niles, 103.6; B. Robinson, 103.6; Putnam, 102.1; D. Taylor, 100.7; Waalewyn, 100.1.
Appoint Peabody To Planning Board– Various matters came up for approval Monday night at the meeting of the Town Council and one, the appointment of Arnold Peabody, chairman of the Council, to the Planning Board, fulfilled recommendations made some time ago. The town officials have been of the opinion that a member of the council should be on the planning board and the resignation some weeks ago of Donald Dunn, due to press of business, made the appointment available for Mr. Peabody.

Nesbitt Serves On USS Dewey In Middle East – Navy Gunners Mate Third Class Calcolm D. Nesbitt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald O. Nesbitt of Hodgdon, was commended as a crewmember of the guided missile frigate USS Dewey for his efforts as part of the U.S. Sixth Fleet task force in the Mediterranean during the latest Middle East crisis.
Seniors, Bantams Join Canadian Hockey League – The Senior team and Bantam teams of the Houlton Hockey program have been entered in a Canadian recreation hockey league and will be playing with teams from Woodstock, Harltand and Nackawick, N.B.

Quint, McCarthy chosen as “Players of the week”– Chosen as this week’s female and male ‘Player of the Week’ are Hodgdon’s Amanda Quint and Kathadin’s Brandon McCarthy. Quint was selected for her outstanding performances against Fort Kent and Katahdin. Quint scored 17 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in the team’s win against Katahdin. McCarthy garnered the honor with his 22 point effort against previously unbeaten Central Aroostook. He also tossed in 23 points in Katahdin’s victory over Hodgdon.
Potter wins Postal Service promotion– The U.S. Postal Service had a promotion to get customers to send their Christmas cards out earlier this year. If you sent 20 or more cards out between Nov. 27 and Dec. 10, would have a chance to win one of the 10, 27” color tv’s.
This was a statewide contest, and one of the Lucky winners was Donald Potter of Wytopitlock. He was very surprised and said, “I have never won anything in my life!” All of the townspeople said there couldn’t have been a more deserving winner than him. He is a very friendly and kind person.
