Renovation of St. Louis School – The old St. Louis School in Fort Kent is being renovated for rental apartments. The name for the housing project is “B & M” Apartments. The owners are Joseph Bolduc and Anthelm Masse. Around 20 units were ready in early spring of 1974. The apartments will include one or two bedrooms.

Fort Kent club ready with new groomer – A new 1999 Tucker groomer was delivered to the town of Fort Kent for the Valley Sno-Riders Snowmobile Club Inc. This unit is a 2000 series with a Cummins diesel 174 h.p. engine. It is the third of its kind used by this club. These machines have proven to be very reliable and dependable. Along with this groomer, a new state of the art Mogul Master drag was also purchased and is the latest technology in trail grooming equipment. It has been revised from previous years to improve its quality of performance. The Valley Snow-Riders maintain 40-plus miles of trails throughout Fort Kent, Wallagrass and on to connect with St. John, Frenchville, Daigle and the Soldier Pond trail systems.

Deer season nears end — With the deer hunting season drawing to a close, the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is reporting that this year in 2013, deer harvest had gone up by about 20 percent. Tagging stations reported that their numbers were up between 10 and 50 percent, according to the press release. Quigley’s Outdoor in Fort Kent tagged 48 deer, the biggest of which weighed in at 243 pounds. The biggest rack was a nine-point spread.
