75 Years Ago – December 23, 1948
Airport News – Three new students have signed up at Houlton Flying Service recently. Glenn Little, who works for the New England Starch Company, is learning to fly in an Ercoupe. At the rate he is going Glenn says he will solo sometime in January. George Levesque of Kelleran street is another Ercoupe fan. George has a total of and and one half hours and already has made his first landing. Don Dyer, of Houlton Fruit Co., has accomplished the miracle and is now approved to start training for his private license; he is the only person to get approved for the training in Aroostook since the Bill was amended last July.
50 Years Ago – December 26, 1973
Donald Mitchell Takes Course At Police Academy – Donald E. Mitchell of the Houlton Police Department has completed a three-day crime scene search school at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy in Waterville. Curriculum included the legal aspects of evidence gathering, coordination of manpower at a crime scene, laboratory examination of physical evidence, crime scene dusting, transportation of evidence, photography at a crime scene, charting a scene and note taking.
Bobcat Awards Presented by Cub Pack 150 – Cub Scout Pack 156 met December 20 at the Court Street Baptist Church. Awards presented by Cubmaster Torrey Sylvester. Receiving awards were: bobcats, Michael Gray, Steven Vose, Stephen Holmes, Mark Sabattus, ROdney Farrar, Mark Hatfield and Todd Peabody. Webelos receiving awards were: showman, Steven Douglas; athlete, Charles Clark; naturalist, Ricky Nickerson; athlete, Karl Woods and Andrew Taylor. Randy Thomas received one gold arrow and four silver arrows.
50 Years Ago – January 13, 1999
Area teams to participate in cheering competition – Ten high school cheerleading squads will gather at Caribou High School Friday for teh annual Invitational Cheerleading Competition. Teams participating are Caribou, Central Aroostook, Easton Fort Fairfield, Hodgdon, Houlton Katahdin, Limestone, Madawaska and Presque Isle.
