New cruiser for Fort Kent – A new police cruiser was recently awarded to the Fort Kent Police Department through a grant approved by the Maine Law Enforcement Planning and Assistance Agency. Chief of Police Camille Caron commented upon receiving the fully-equipped cruiser, “Previously, when our one vehicle was under repair, we were severely hampered. The new vehicle will not only prevent disrupted patrol but will give us added police protection coverage.”

Assistance granted for laid-off employees — More than a month after being laid off, approximately 80 employees affected by the shutdown at Creative Apparel Associates will have an opportunity to get some assistance from the state at two open meetings. The Maine Department of Labor has scheduled two Rapid Response sessions for those employees, according to Julie Rabinowitz, director of communication at the labor department. The limited information the department has received from the company indicates the layoffs are “temporary,” according to Rabinowitz. Creative Apparel Associates, a manufacturer of specialty clothing for the U.S. military, owns manufacturing facilities in Fort Kent, Harmony, Dover-Foxcroft and Princeton.
