A new year of gratitude

The new year is a reflective time for those of us who volunteer at the Central Aroostook Humane Society.

We look back on the past year and realize that without the support of the 30 communities we contract with, the businesses and individuals that support our fundraisers, the many volunteers that show up at our doors to spend time helping the animals, the Board of Directors and our amazing employees, we just couldn’t continue to exist.

The previous year was beyond exciting with the dream of our new building project taking shape and becoming a big reality in 2024. We have worked so hard at fundraising, a letter-writing campaign, bake sales, raffles, a pet show, craft fairs, online events and, most importantly, seeking grant monies that would support our new building. Because of the new sprinkler system that was added after our initial cost proposal, we will continue working hard to make up the difference in what we need to raise.

We are determined and are confident that within the next six months, we will have a brand-new shelter that will be safer, not only for the animals but for our employees and the many customers and volunteers who visit every day.

It truly does warm our hearts to see the outpouring of support, not only monetarily, but the many items that are donated.  We continue to encourage those who would like to stop by to volunteer their time in walking a dog, helping with laundry, cleaning cages or just spending some quality time providing tender loving care and attention to the animals.  The animals need socialization and any human interaction is a plus.

As of Jan. 1, we have started a new schedule at the shelter. Our new hours are Tuesdays from 12 to 4 p.m., and Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., closing for lunch from 12 to 12:30 p.m.

We hope you will stop by and check out the animals that are up for adoption, or follow us on Facebook. From all of your furry friends at the Central Aroostook Humane Society, a blessed new year to everyone.

Please remember to be responsible pet owners: spay and neuter your pets.
