HOULTON, Maine — Greater Houlton Christian Academy hosted its 2024 Spelling Bee on Thursday, January 18.
Rev. Randall Burns served as the pronouncer and judges were Mrs. Matthews-Hermans and Mrs. Ross.
This year we had five spellers: Teagan Mitchell, Abe Han, Lydia Han, Brooklyn Philbrook and Kylah Tuttle.

Round after round, spellers conquered words like “sphagnum”, “frijoles” and “craquelure”. After 19 rounds, Abe Han and Lydia Han remained. In round 22 Abe misspelled “fiendishly”, which Lydia spelled correctly and then correctly spelled her word, “freewheeling”.
Congratulations to all spellers! Lydia Han and Abe Han will move on to the County Spelling Bee in Fort Kent on February 8.
