Presque Isle leaders will meet to discuss the search for a new city manager

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — A week after City Manager Tyler Brown resigned, the Presque Isle City Council has planned its first meeting to talk about what happens next.

Councilors will meet in executive session on Wednesday, March 20, city hall staff said.

Brown, a former Delta Airlines manager, was hired on Feb. 8. He resigned abruptly on March 7, citing personal reasons. City leadership is in limbo until the council acts. The meeting will be the council’s first gathering since the resignation to talk about filling the city manager’s post.

“We (city councilors) were surprised and disappointed by our manager’s sudden resignation,” said Council Chair Kevin Freeman on Wednesday. “The council will meet as a group next week to discuss next steps.”

The council hasn’t made any decisions yet because they haven’t had a chance to meet officially on the situation, Councilor Craig Green said Wednesday.

“This will be our first opportunity to have a legal session to meet and start formulating what we think our options are and what our plans will be,” he said.

Brown grew up in Ludlow, Vermont, and came to Presque Isle from Georgia. He was a former operations manager for Delta Airlines.

He sent a letter to city council members the morning after his inaugural meeting at the city’s helm. His resignation caught councilors off guard.

Freeman shared the letter with The Star-Herald.

“Due to personal reasons, I find it is in the best interest of both myself and the Council that I step down,” Brown wrote in the letter. “I have come to realize that I may not be the best fit for this role. I believe there are alternate individuals who might be better suited and provide the loyalty you are desiring.”

The city council welcomes community input on the search for the next town manager, Green said.

The next regular council meeting will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, at city hall.
