HODGDON, Maine — Meghan Peters, a senior at Hodgdon Middle/High School, has been selected to receive the 2024 Principal’s Award announced by Principal Lacey McQuarrie.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Peters will graduate as the Class of 2024’s valedictorian. She has excelled in honors, dual enrollment and early college courses throughout her time in Hodgdon Middle/High School. She will graduate with more than 64 college credits completely free to her and her family.
Peters is a five-sport athlete where she has played varsity soccer, basketball, softball, lacrosse and volleyball. She has received Aroostook all-star awards, participated in the Senior All-Star game, and acted as a team captain.
“As our student representative for the school board, chosen after an interview with our district superintendent and school board chair, Meghan was an active voice for her peers at both our monthly school board meetings and our policy committee meetings,” McQuarrie said. “This position will assist Meghan at Bates College where she will major in political science in the fall.”
Peters, McQuarrie and other award winners and their principals will attend an honors luncheon at Jeff’s Catering on Saturday, April 6.
The luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of an individual plaque and the awarding of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals and MPA Executive Directors Horace O. McGowan, Richard W. Tyler and Richard A. Durost.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
