AUGUSTA, Maine — On March 19 Senate President Troy Jackson, D-Allagash, welcomed the Easton chapter of the Future Farmers of America to the State House for National Agriculture Day.

“It was an honor to welcome the Future Farmers of America to the State House and show them more about how they can advocate for the issues we deal with that affect agriculture in Maine,” said Jackson. “Our state is very lucky to have young folks dedicated to continuing the tradition of putting good, homegrown food on our plates. I wish them the best of luck in their future careers and in all their endeavors.”

Future Farmers of America is an intracurricular student organization for youth who are interested in agriculture and leadership. FFA prepares its members for their future careers through hands-on, real-world experiences that are built around personal growth through agricultural education. FFA was founded in 1928 by a group of young farmers. Their mission was to prepare future generations for the challenges of feeding a growing population.

The National Agriculture Day program was started in 1973 by the Agriculture Council of America, with the purpose of educating all Americans on how their food and fiber products are produced, as well as emphasizing the vital role farmers have in our society. The ACA is a not-for-profit organization and maintains the ACA Education Foundation.
