Artists for Aging gallery features Caribou painter

PRESQUE ISLE, Maine – Caribou painter Steve McLellan will exhibit his creative work at the  Aroostook Agency on Aging during the First Friday Art Walk on April 5 from 4:30-7 p.m. in the  Artists for Aging gallery at 260 Main Street.

A self-taught artist, McLellan never had any lessons. He painted his first picture at 12 years old, and has been doing it ever since. Originally from Sherman, he joined the U.S. Air Force following high school, and was eventually stationed at Loring Air Force Base. He married a girl from Caribou and they settled there to raise their family. He has two grown sons and three grandchildren.

Following his wife’s passing, he remarried in 2019. Since retirement, McLellan can be found most days in his studio.

He and his wife Anita love spending time at their camper in Oxbow during the summers, taking  long rides, enjoying the wildlife and all the natural beauty of northern Maine. No matter where he is, he is always looking for inspiration for his next painting!

Those presenting their creative works as part of “Artists for Aging” initiative have generously agreed to donate 20 percent of their sales to support programs and services offered by Aroostook Agency on Aging.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, please call the Agency on Aging at 207-764-3396 or 1-800-439-1789.
