LITTLETON, Maine – The Boys and Girls Club of Maliseets has announced several promotions and new hires for its club to better serve the needs of its tribal community.
Jon Solomon has been named the new CEO of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Border Towns, overseeing not only the Maliseet youth program, but also the Aroostook Band of Mi’kmaqs and Sipayik clubs. Solomon takes over for Fenton R.E. Jones who served as CEO for several years before being named director of Federal Grants-CNCS at Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
“Fenton has left the Boys and Girls Clubs of Border Towns in an excellent state,” Solomon said. “I eagerly anticipate the ongoing growth of our organization. Across three vibrant communities, we offer a secure haven for youth to flourish through our diverse array of programs and activities. As my guiding principle, I firmly believe that when schools close their doors at the end of the day or for vacation, we are open to serve and empower our young people.”
Assuming the role of unit director for the Maliseet Boys and Girls Club is Kayla Shrout, who joined the Maliseets in 2021 working in the education department as a Johnson O’Malley program coordinator. Since taking on the role in mid-January, several additional changes have occurred within the organization.
In March, Charity Cyr was named the new assistant unit director. She joins the Club after spending 12 years in education at Houlton Elementary School.
Megan Anderson, who originally joined as a youth worker in 2022, has been promoted to project coordinator, showcasing her growth and dedication to the club’s mission.
Alan St Jean, serving as the cultural engagement mentor since 2022, continues to contribute his expertise and guidance. Elisabeth Donahue, also a member since 2022, remains an integral part of the team, fulfilling her role as a youth worker.
The Boys & Girls Club of Maliseet provides youth in grades K-12 with fun cultural, educational and physical activities. It is open to both Tribal residents and non-Native youth alike. The club implements these programs within a safe, structured environment.
The program aims to help children from all walks of life and will continue to find new and healthier ways to shape children physically, emotionally, socially and spiritually. The Boys & Girls Club of Maliseet provides opportunities for our youth to learn and develop sportsmanship, integrity, character, social skills and lifelong friendships.
