Hodgdon High School honor parts for 2024

HODGDON, Maine — Lacey McQuarrie, principal of Hodgdon High School, has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2024.

Meghan Peters, daughter of James and Julie Peters is Hodgdon’s valedictorian for the Class of 2024. Meghan was a five-sport athlete participating in varsity soccer, volleyball, lacrosse, softball and basketball where she earned All-Aroostook honors in soccer and rose to the role of team captain in each sport during her senior year. For two years, she served as the inaugurate student representative to the MSAD #70 School Board where she was an active participant in the monthly meetings and acted as a student voice within the policy committee as needed.

Meghan was inducted into the National Honor Society as a sophomore and has accumulated over 50 hours of community service throughout high school. Meghan was the recipient of both the Maine Principal’s Award as well as the female Scholar Athlete Award for her senior class. Alongside her academic and athletic responsibilities, Meghan has worked at Anderson’s Mill Pond Dairy Bar for the past three summers. Meghan will graduate with 68 college credits and  will be attending Bates College in the fall with a major in political science with aspirations to attend law school.

Joseph Griffin, the son of Dr. Brian and Theresa Griffin of Hodgdon, was named the salutatorian of the Class of 2024. He is a member of the Hodgdon National Honor Society and president of the Northern Maine Region National Honor Society which encompasses 16 schools. Joseph received the Houlton Rotary Club Achievement Award and has been on the high honor roll all semesters. He earned 57 college credits during his high school career.

Joseph played varsity golf, soccer and baseball all four of his high school years. He was named an Aroostook League Scholar Athlete. Joseph participated in the Border Patrol Explorer program first as a member, then a supervisor, and is currently the explorer in charge. He also participated in Dirigo State. There he was a member of the Honor Town and was awarded the Outstanding Citizen award. Joseph was chosen to participate in both the United States Naval Academy’s Summer STEM and Summer Seminar programs. He received the Border Patrol Community Service award. During high school Joseph recorded over 200 hours of community service in such activities as picking vegetables for the local food pantries, assisting at Moosestoompers and Houlton’s Halloween event. He is certified as a Maine Basic Firefighter and is a volunteer Wildland Firefighter. Joseph was chosen to take part in the University of Maine Consider Engineering program and was a recent member of the All-Aroostook Chorus.

Joseph is active in St Mary’s Youth Ministry program. He volunteers as an altar server, lector and extraordinary minister of Holy Communion. He received the Portland Maine Catholic Diocese’s Timothy Award as a model for living a life of integrity, morals, leadership, and service to others. Joseph has accepted an appointment to the United States Military Academy at West Point with a major in electrical engineering. He will commence plebe summer at the end of June.

Ella Catherine Suitter, the daughter of Corey and Stacy Suitter of Hodgdon, was named Hodgdon High School first honor essayist for the Class of 2024. While in high school Ella has enjoyed playing varsity soccer and volleyball. She has contributed many hours of community service, received her CNA and phlebotomy certifications, earned early college credits, and has been an active member of the National Honor Society. Some of her best high school memories include team times, school dances and prom, soccer games, color wars, NHS activities, family gatherings, time with her sister, Florida vacations and fun nights out with her friends.

Ella is currently working as a CNA at Madigan Estates Nursing Home, this opportunity solidified her desire to pursue a career in nursing. Ella will be attending Husson University in the fall, where she will seek her bachelor of science in nursing.
