HOULTON, Maine — The Northern Maine Moose lacrosse team earned a pair of victories last week, including an 11-3 win vs. MCI/Nokomis on May 14.
Isaiah Ervin led with 4 goals 1 assist and other point-scorers were Colton Simoes 2 goals, 1 assist; Michael Conley 1 goal, 3 assists; Branden Barton 1 goal; Konnor Lynds 2 goals, 2 assists; and Seth Bougoin 1 goal.
Goalie Dawson Cole also made one assist on the night. His save percentage was 80 percent.
Colton Simoes, faceoff specialist, had a winning percentage of 72.
Emery Nightangale, Colby Scott and Brayden Drake added depth to the game.
Gage Folsom, Aimon Simoes and Ryker Forbush held down the defense with the help of Payton Powel and Sean Crouse limiting the Nokomis offense.
“We are thankful for the win and hope to use this momentum against a competitive schedule over the next two weeks,” coach Adam Simoes said.
The Northern Maine Moose hosted Brewer May 16 and came out on top 9-4. The game was a well-fought competition that continues to highlight the depth of the Moose as the team gains experience in the second varsity year.
Point-scorers were Konnor Lynds 4 goals, 1 assist; Isaiah Ervin 2 goals, 2 assists; Colton Simoes 1 goal, 1 assist; and Michael Conley 2 goals, 1 assist.
“We lost by one goal last year against Brewer and that loss likely put us out of contention for the playoffs,” coach Simones said. “We came with that thought fresh on our minds.
“Colton Simoes, our faceoff specialist, continues to give the Moose the advantage. Today he won 86 percent of his faceoffs. Gage Folsom, a defender, continues to scoop up the majority of ground balls that come his way in the defensive end and this helps the team transition to offense. Dawson Cole continues to make pivotal saves. I highlight these players but it was the whole team transitioning well on and off the field, and having players that can play multiple roles like Brandon Barton, Micheal Conely and Ryker Forbush. I could easily name each player today for making this game successful. When we possess we score.”
