HOULTON, Maine — On May 18 senior Meghan Peters of Hodgdon High School scored her 100th goal for the Northern Maine Moose in a home game against Oceanside High School. In just 24 varsity games Peters scored 115 goals, 67 this season.  This season completed the second year Northern Maine Moose competed as a varsity sport in the Maine Principal’s Association Class C division.

Peters was also an exceptional athlete on Hodgdon’s varsity soccer, basketball, and softball teams helping to lead each to playoffs. Off the field Peters excelled in the classroom, evident in her being Hodgdon High School’s valedictorian.

Peters played for Northern Maine Moose since grade 7 and developed her love of lacrosse in the off-season playing for traveling teams throughout the northeast.

Coach Ken Ervin said, ‘Meghan is a complete player and a great teammate. Her commitment to becoming a better player was evident each year. Meghan was clearly the best player on the field in most games as seen in every facet of the game, from winning the draw to cradling through defenders, making pin point passes to her teammates, and attacking the goal and scoring.  Scoring lots of goals in so few games against the opponent’s best defenders.”

Ervin added that Peters has been nominated as a Maine Lacrosse All-American player as well as a Maine Lacrosse All-Academic student-athlete.

In the fall Peters will attend Bates College, majoring in political science with plans to attend law school thereafter. She is considering playing lacrosse for the Bobcats.

Started in 2017, Northern Maine Moose continues to provide playing opportunities for families in the greater Houlton area. This spring 152 boys and girls from grades 1-12 participated. Northern Maine Moose has a boys and a girls varsity lacrosse teams based out of Houlton High School with co-op playing opportunities for surrounding schools. This year the girls team had players from Central Aroostook High School, Hodgdon High School, and Greater Houlton Christian Academy.
