CARIBOU, Maine – Caribou police shot a Presque Isle man Wednesday after he allegedly tried to run over a police officer while attempting to escape in a stolen vehicle.
Caribou officer Kevin St. Peter spotted 37-year-old Marc Beaulieu driving a stolen 2006 silver Chevrolet pick-up truck at approximately 1:35 a.m., according to Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan.
Beaulieu did not stop for St. Peter, and drove off but was discovered at around 5:45 a.m. at First Choice Market & Deli on Sweden Street in Caribou.
Caribou officer Doug Bell attempted to tase Beaulieu, who then fled in a stolen UTV. Beaulieu allegedly tried to run Bell over while fleeing in the UTV. Bell then shot Beaulieu, Gahagan said.
Deputies from Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office later arrested Beaulieu in Woodland, and he was taken to Cary Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Beaulieu is being charged with attempted murder and other charges are pending, according to Gahagan.
Bell was also transported to Cary with non-life-threatening injuries. He has been placed on administrative leave as Maine’s Attorney General conducts an investigation into Bell shooting Beaulieu, Gahagan said.
