The next Mapleton Lions fundraiser will be the Mapleton Lions Den at the Northern Maine Agricultural Fair from Wednesday, July 31, through Sunday, Aug. 4.
The den will serve everyone’s favorite sandwiches, hand-cut french fries and doughboys. The fair’s gates will open at 2 p.m. and the Lions Club will serve food from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, and from, 12 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 4.

This year the Lions Club has decided to create two serving lines. One will be for regular food items, while the second line will be for doughboys only. This should speed up purchases of food as everyone will not have to wait in a single line for both meals and doughboys as in the past.
Members are eagerly preparing for the fair so that everyone that visits their food booth will have an enjoyable meal.
The Mapleton Lions Club thanks everyone who came out to have dinner with them at Mapleton Daze, where they sold more than 300 barbecue chicken dinners and many red hot dog dinners, as well. Funds raised from the dinner will be used to fund youth programs, low income eyeglass needs and many other community needs.
This dinner was the second of the four major Lions Club fundraisers.
Pool now open
The Baptist Park Indoor Pool will be open to the public for weekend swimming through July and August. The pool hours will be from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and from 12 to 3 p.m. on Sundays.
There is no admission fee to use the pool during these hours. Youth under age 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The Baptist Park Pool has a wood fired boiler to warm the water for folks, who would like to swim in warmer water. For any additional information regarding the use of the pool, please contact Baptist Park.
Healthy aging lunch
The next Northern Light A. R. Gould Hospital Healthy Aging Luncheon will feature surgeon Tiffany Fredrickson, who will speak about the alarming increase in skin cancer in Aroostook County. She will provide information on how to protect yourself and how to spot and treat this disease.
The Healthy Aging Luncheon will be held at 11 a.m. on Aug. 15 at State Road Advent Christian Church in their activity center, 1135 State Road, Mapleton.
Fredrickson will also answer questions. A free lunch will be served. The event is free but you must register so the hospital can have an accurate head count for the food.
