HOULTON, Maine — The Harlem Superstars comedy basketball team returned to the region this past weekend for shows in Houlton and Stacyville.
The Harlem Superstars are a group of talented basketball players whose main mission is to entertain kids and their families through “show time” basketball. The shows are filled with fan participation and plenty of laughs.
Friday’s performance at the Houlton Middle-High School was packed as more than 700 people turned out for a night of slam dunks, one-liners and comedic antics. A 50/50 raffle raised $520 for the Houlton seniors as the person who won half the pot donated the money back to the seniors.
The group took its act to Katahdin Area High School on Saturday night for another show.
Both shows also served as fundraisers for the Class of 2017 for their respective schools.
Each year, the Superstars also make it a point of visiting Houlton Elementary and Southside schools to speak to area children on a variety of topics, such as peer pressure, bullying and the dangers of drugs.
