PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — The United Way of Aroostook will host the Miss Presque Isle Pageant on Saturday, April 1, at 7 p.m. at the Presque Isle High School auditorium.

The pageant has added a new division, Mini Miss Presque Isle, which means four crowns will be awarded this year: Mini Miss, Little Miss, Junior Miss, and Miss Presque Isle.

This year’s pageant, under the direction of Jolene Kinney, is themed “Happy Birthday” in honor of the United Way of Aroostook’s 60th birthday.

“I look forward to this event each year as a chance for the girls to build self-esteem, self-confidence, to make new friendships and showcase their talents,” said Kinney.

The emcees for the evening will be Sherry Locke, UWA executive director, and Jason Parent, executive director/CEO of the Aroostook County Action Program. This is the second year the duo have co-hosted the event, but the United Way of Aroostook has presented the pageant as a fundraiser for many years, dating back to before 2005.

“It’s been a wonderful way to raise money to support our community,” said Locke. “This year’s funds have been specifically earmarked for a joint project with United Way of Aroostook, Presque Isle Kiwanis and Presque Isle Rotary Clubs, working together to update playground equipment in Presque Isle.”

Community members who wish to support the fundraiser and the contestants by attending the pageant can purchase tickets ($8 each) from any contestant, reigning queen, or by stopping by the United Way office at 830 Main Street in the Aroostook Centre Mall. Tickets will also be available at the door the evening of the pageant, April 1.
