HIGH POINT, N.C. — James “Jim” Taubin, 72, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at High Point Regional Hospital. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He loved serving others and his community.
Jim was born in Macon, Ga., February 11, 1945, a son of the late James and Edna Taubin. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Air Force after graduating from high school in 1963, and proudly served his country for twenty-two years before retiring in 1984, with the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. After retirement, Jim enrolled at the University of Maine at Presque Isle and earned a Bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in geology. He was a proud member of the American Legion in Maine, Georgia and North Carolina. Jim was preceded in death by two sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Cheryl Nickerson Taubin; a daughter, Tammy Wyman and her husband, David, of Presque Isle, ME; two sons, Douglas Taubin and his wife, Tina, of High Point, N.C. and James D. Taubin and his wife, Julia, of Acworth, Ga.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Taubin and his significant other, Elvia Aranzalez and Kaye Reece and his wife, Carol, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; many nieces and nephews.
A Veteran’s memorial ceremony and celebration is being planned for northern Maine at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Jim expressed that gifts or financial expressions be passed on to his wife to help support her journey forward.
