PATTEN, Maine — Members of the public are invited to attend three meetings focusing on the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument on Tuesday, April 4.
Carrie Hamblen, CEO/president of the Las Cruces Green Chamber of Commerce in El Paso, Texas, will be the featured speaker at these sessions. Hamblen has helped municipal officials, business and local organizations take advantage of the economic opportunities provided by a national monument in or near their communities.
The first meeting, “The Business Side of National Monuments,” will be held from 8-10 a.m. at the Lumberman’s Museum, located on 61 Shin Pond Road in Patten. The purpose of this meeting is for business owners to learn of the economic opportunities and benefits that come with the establishment of the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument.
A session titled “How communities benefit from national monuments,” is scheduled from noon-2 p.m. at the Sherman Municipal Building, 36 School St. This workshop for town officials focuses on how communities can benefit from the federal recognition and development.
The final session, “Taking advantage of the economic and tourism opportunities of National Monuments,” which is geared toward the general public, is slated from 5-7 p.m. at the Lumberman’s Museum.
