HOULTON, Maine — The Maine State Police Troop F barracks in Houlton responded to 226 calls for service during the period of March 20-April 2.
Friday, March 31
– Sgt. Clark was on Route 10, Easton, when he observed a vehicle driving at a high rate of speed while passing another vehicle. The vehicle, driven by a 19-year-old male from Easton, was clocked on radar driving 88 mph in a posted 50-mph zone. The man was issued a criminal summons for Exceeding the Posted Speed Limit by 30 mph or more.
The man told Sgt. Clark that the driver in front of him kept slowing down and he was irritated so he passed the vehicle at a high rate of speed. The man has been stopped for criminal speed in the past.
– Cpl. Quint was stationary in Bridgewater along U.S. Highway 1 waiting to assist with another incident. A vehicle came up over a hill out of the town of Bridgewater at a high rate of speed which was locked in at 101 mph leaving a 45-mph zone and entering a 55-mph zone. The vehicle was stopped and the 25-year-old male driver from Madawaska said he just had the car’s turbo worked on and he wanted to see if it is working properly. The man had two adult passengers in the vehicle as well as a loaded .357 pistol in the driver’s side door. The man was arrested for criminal speeding, driving to endanger, and violation of bail. The man was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
– Cpl. Quint stopped a vehicle for not displaying a state inspection certificate. The 32-year-old female driver said the sticker was scraped when she bought the car and she is trying to get it repaired so it will pass inspection. The woman also had a suspended driver’s license for failing to maintain required liability insurance. The woman was issued a criminal summons for Operating After Suspension and a traffic summons for Not Displaying a Valid Inspection Sticker.
Thursday, March 30
– Tr. Desrosier was on patrol and observed a vehicle exceeding the posted speed limit and the officer stopped the vehicle for the violation. Tr. Desrosier made contact with the operator, a 64-year-old Madawaska man, and the officer suspected the driver was impaired. After the man failed Field Sobriety Testing he was arrested and transported to Madawaska PD.
– The State Police were contacted regarding a vehicle off the road in Madawaska Lake. Tr. Levesque responded and discovered that the driver, a 25-year-old male from Van Buren, had been drinking. After investigation and failing Field Sobriety Testing the man was arrested and taken to Caribou PD.
Tuesday, March 28
– Tr. Casavant responded to a motor vehicle crash on Route 163 in Mapleton. A female passenger from Ashland was trapped in the vehicle. The operator and another passenger fled on foot and were later dropped off in Mapleton. Investigation revealed the male operator was driving with a revoked license and the passenger had an outstanding warrant. The vehicle they were driving had been purchased on 3-27-17 and was taken without permission from the owner. Investigation is ongoing at this time and Tr. Casavant is trying to locate the operator and other passenger.
Monday, March 27
– Troopers Bell and Adams responded to a residence in Littleton for a strange pickup in the yard. A male was found unconscious in his truck with his foot pinning the gas pedal to the floor. The engine was smoking, and the fire department responded. The male was found to be highly impaired by alcohol and arrested. The male had apparently driven into someone’s driveway where he passed out at the wheel.
Sunday, March 26
– Tr. Bell and Tr. Adams investigated the report of a disorderly male lying in the road in Oakfield and also the male was stopping cars and yelling at them. The male was found, and arrested for an active warrant and violating bail. After being handcuffed, the male actively resisted and assaulted Tr. Adams in the process by kicking him. The male had to be transported to jail in a Border Patrol cruiser cage after he couldn’t be restrained in Tr. Adams cruiser and was actively kicking at the troopers and equipment and also taking his seatbelt off.
Saturday, March 25
– Tr. Lilley attempted to stop a vehicle that was driving 95 mph on Interstate 95 in Houlton. Although he had his blue lights and siren activated the vehicle refused to stop. Cpl. Quint and Houlton PD Officers were advised and responding to assist Tr. Lilley. The woman eventually stopped and stated to Tr. Lilley in broken English that she did not know what the blue lights meant and police lights are red in New York. Tr. Lilley issued the woman a traffic summons for speeding and explained she needs to yield to flashing blue lights in Maine.
– Tr. Pescitelli was parked on Route 227 observing the flow of traffic when he noticed a vehicle go past that did not have working license plate lights. Tr. Pescitelli conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver who couldn’t provide a registration for the vehicle. After running the license plate it was discovered that it was falsely attached to the vehicle being operated by the driver. Tr. Pescitelli offered to go to the individual’s house to check the paperwork but the individual said he wouldn’t be able to “find it in a timely manner.” The individual was issued a criminal summons for the offense.
– Tr. Levesque was driving on U.S. Highway 1 in Presque Isle when he observed a vehicle aggressively passing other vehicles. Tr. Levesque locked the vehicle’s speed at 86 mph in a posted 55-mph zone. After stopping the vehicle he spoke with the 54-year-old female driver and she stated there was a pickup following her too close and she wanted to get away from it. Tr. Levesque issued the woman a summons for criminal speeding.
– Tr. Adams stopped a vehicle for speeding on U.S. Route 1 in Houlton. The operator of the vehicle had a warrant for her arrest. The operator was arrested and was later bailed from the Troop F Barracks.
Friday, March 24
– Tr. Lilley stopped a 20-year-old Madawaska man after he passed Tr. Lilley’s unmarked cruiser at 108 mph on Interstate 95. The man told Tr. Lilley that he just learned that his grandmother is in the hospital and he was trying to get home to see her. The man also had his twin brother in the vehicle at the time of the stop. The two attend college in southern Maine and were returning home. Tr. Lilley issued the driver a criminal summons for his excessive speed.
– Tr. Kilcollins arrested a 42-year-old Patten man for Operating After Revocation and several outstanding warrants. It was reported that the man was leaving a residence in Orient. Tr. Stoutamyer was returning from a detail in Troop J, heard the call going to Tr. Kilcollins, and observed the vehicle in Hodgdon. Tr. Stoutamyer followed the vehicle into a driveway and when Tr. Kilcollins arrived the man admitted to driving while his license was revoked and knew he had warrants for his arrest. The warrants were for Failing to Appear for a fine hearing and two for unpaid fines. The total bail on the warrants was $640 cash. The man was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
– Tr. Stoutamyer and Tr. Pescitelli were conducting a distracted driver detail in Machias when they stopped a vehicle as the occupants were not wearing seatbelts. The male passenger did not want to provide his name, and had no identification. The Troopers took a photograph of the person and texted it to Tr. Gavin Endre of Troop J who then sent it out to others in the Troop. Cpl. Christopher Smith recognized the man and provided his name and it was discovered that the man had an active arrest warrant. When confronted a second time, the man said that he was not the person in question, but his twin brother. When they ran the twin brother, it found that he had six active warrants. The man was then placed under arrest and taken to the jail in Machias.
Thursday, March 23
– Tr. Sylvia was called out to a residence in Monticello when the homeowner reported a woman entered their home screaming to call the police because a man was after her. Tr. Sylvia arrived and was met by a very confrontational female who later admitted she was using meth. Troopers Stetson and Flynn responded to assist with the arrest and transport of the female to the hospital in the ambulance. The woman was eventually cleared medically and charged with burglary and assault.
Monday, March 20
– Members of Troop F attended Troop Training in Houlton. The training focused on Traffic Incident Management System (TIMS) in the morning and Narcan in the afternoon. All Troop F Troopers have been issued Narcan. The training was also attended by members of CVEU and MCU
– Tr. Bell was parked in Linneus when a male was observed driving. The male had previous history of operating after suspension. Tr. Bell followed the male into the driver’s driveway, and during a casual encounter the male admitted to driving and having a suspended license. He was summonsed for operating after suspension.
