AUGUSTA, Maine — Sen. Mike Carpenter, D-Houlton, has been appointed to the National Conference on State Legislatures’ (NCSL) Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee and the Redistricting and Elections Committee.

The appointments were made by the President of the Senate. Carpenter will serve as a representative from the Maine Senate.

“I am honored to be appointed to these committees,” said Sen. Carpenter. “Maine is known both for its natural resources and for its’ high rate of civic engagement. I look forward to forward to engaging in the  national discussion on the issues of the day.”

The Natural Resources and Infrastructure Committee and the Redistricting and Elections Committee are among the  nine standing committees of the NCSL. Both committees educate Congress and federal agencies about state concerns about their respective topics. In addition, the committees serve as forums for state legislators and legislative staff to learn about and share information regarding programs and initiatives in other states.

NCSL is a national organization that serves the interests of state legislatures by providing states support, ideas, and connections for policy and effectiveness.
