LIMESTONE, Maine — Rebecca Dillenbeck of Limestone, a senior at Limestone Community School, has been selected to receive the 2017 Principal’s Award, Principal Susan White announced recently.
The award, sponsored by the Maine Principals’ Association, is given in recognition of a high school senior’s academic achievement and citizenship.
Dillenbeck has attended Limestone Community School (LCS) from first grade through her senior year. White described her as a well-rounded student and an active member of the school community and the community of Limestone. She has maintained honor or high honor status throughout high school. She has been a member of the National Honor Society (NHS) for the past two years and has served as the treasurer both years. She is a member of the Student Council and served as the treasurer during her junior year.
Dillenbeck also participated in athletics at LCS. While she would often serve the team as a manager, on more than one occasion she put on a uniform and played in the games so that the team could field enough players.
“This is just one of many ways that Rebecca has unselfishly served her school over the years,” White said. “Rebecca’s true passion, however, is music and she was chosen for All-Aroostook Chorus for six years. Rebecca is the go-to person when we needed someone to sing the National Anthem at school events.”
She also volunteers to assist with elementary music classes during her free time, and according to White, participates in all activities at school, comes to school 30 minutes early each day so she can help the younger kids at breakfast, and helps at home with her special-needs brother.
“Rebecca is a role model to everyone at LCS and we are all very proud of her for all that she has accomplished during her years at LCS,” added White.
Dillenbeck, White and other award winners and their principals attended an Honors Luncheon at the Spectacular Event Center in Bangor Saturday, April 1, 2017.
The Honors Luncheon recognizes these outstanding students with the presentation of individual plaques and the awarding of five $1,000 scholarships in the names of Horace O. McGowan and Richard W. Tyler. McGowan and Tyler were former Maine principals and executive directors of the Association. An additional five $1,000 scholarships were presented through the efforts of the MPA Scholarship Golf Tournament.
The Principal’s Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA, the professional association which represents Maine’s school administrators.
